Dr. Candee is also active member of several community organizations including Greater Newburyport Opportunities, Inc. (Opportunity Works), Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, and Friends of the Waterfront. He has a special interest in small animal orthopedic surgery and enjoys fly fishing and spending time with his grandchildren in his time off.
Dr Kirk T. Smith:

Dr. Smith is New England transplant originally from South Central Pennsylvania. He received his V.M.D from the University of Pennsylvania in May of 1991 and joined the Amesbury Animal Hospital in July of the same year. He worked as an associate for 7 years and became a partner in 1998. He enjoys the diversity of veterinary medicine he is able to practice treating both large and small animals.

Developing lasting relationships with clients, staff members and their animals has been one of the most rewarding parts of working at the same location since graduation. Outside of work, Dr Smith enjoys spending his free time at home with the family (wife Becky and daughter Lila). They also enjoy spending as much time outside walking and hiking especially in the White Mountains. Rumor has it he is a closet "redneck" and enjoys trips to the sunny South for NASCAR.
Dr. Jacqueline L. Bastien:
Dr. Bastien grew up in Amesbury and attended Amesbury High School (Go Indians!). She went north in 1986 to THE University of Maine (Go Black Bears!) as a major in Animal and Veterinary Sciences/Pre-veterinary and a minor in Zoology. She graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and joined the Amesbury Animal Hospital a few months later as a full-time associate, seeing both small and large animal patients. Prior to that time, she had been a technician at AAH for seven years. She became a partner in the practice in 2002.
Being a lifelong resident of Amesbury, she finds it satisfying to be able to give back to her community. She enjoys her time with her husband Al, her daughters Kate and Kim, and is allowed to co-habitate with cats Gus, Nala and Rufus. She is also extremely happy that the Red Sox were able to meet her expectations in 2004!
Dr. Sarah C. Grossman:
Born and bred in nearby North Reading, MA, Dr. Grossman always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. She started riding as a young girl and continued to ride competitively on the intercollegiate hunt-seat team at Umass-Amherst where she got her BS in Animal Science and minor in English. While there, she also worked for three years on a local dairy farm as an assistant herdsman and even had a little Holstein heifer named after her (who is reported to be one of the best milkers in the herd!). She graduated from Tufts in 2007 with her doctorate in veterinary medicine and (to the delight of her parents), joined the Amesbury Animal Hospital. She is thrilled to be working with such a wonderful team of people and is eager to explore all aspects of large and small animal medicine.
She is so pleased to announce the arrival of her son Daniel to the world and will show off pictures to anyone who asks! When not snuggling with Daniel, she spends what little free time left with her husband Pete and their numerous animals including two dogs (Samson and Ellie), four cats (Kitten, Chili, Ajax and Calleigh), two house bunnies (Toula and Harley).
Dr. Beth A. Pelletier
Dr. Pelletier grew up in Ware, Massachusetts. She attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst for her undergraduate education where she received her BS in Animal Science. She then attended the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and received her DVM in 2009. As a veterinary student, Dr. Pelletier was very active in the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA), first as a delegate for Tufts Veterinary School, then as a member of the SAVMA Executive Committee and Editor of The Vet Gazette, the online SAVMA publication. In the future, Dr. Pelletier hopes to remain active in organized veterinary medicine and within her local community. She is very excited and honored to be a part of the amazing Amesbury team and to be working with both large and small animal clients. In her spare time Dr. Pelletier enjoys reading, gardening, painting or sewing. That is, when she isn’t spending quality time with her boyfriend, Gus, family or friends. She also gives a lot of time and attention to her cats Pandora and Nymeria, her dog Odin, and her red-eared slider, Beelzebub.
Dr. Robert A. Marston:
Dr. Marston was born and raised in Amherst, MA. His love for animals and his special way with animals, especially horses, has been a constant throughout his life. He had his first horse by the age of fifteen and has owned horses ever since then. He developed a broad background in animal husbandry and care during his early years by working for several local dairy farms, a feed company and training draft horses while at Stockbridge School of Agriculture. He did his pre-veterinary work at Umass-Amherst and then in 1965, he graduated with his DVM from Michigan State.

He spent two years practicing at Pine Tree Veterinary Hospital up in Augusta, Maine before moving down here to start the Amesbury Animal Hospital in 1967. Dr. Marston moved to a farm in East Kingston in 1975 and he married our very own Deb in 1977. He can proudly boast of three grown children and eight grandchildren, two of which share his love of horses and are actively involved in riding. The Marston Farm currently is home to 14 horses, 60 dairy goats, and assorted number of sheep, cattle, poultry, pigs, dogs and cats. He retired from active practice in 2002, and his wife keeps him pretty busy with the farm and running the East Kingston Dog Pound.
