CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR RETIREMENT DR. CANDEE!
Thank you for your many years of dedication to your clients, patients, and the Amesbury Animal Hospital.
Dr. Thomas Candee has been practicing medicine at Amesbury Animal Hospital since 1971. After nearly 50 years of service, he made the decision to officially retire as of July 2020. Dr. Candee will be greatly missed by his clients, patients and staff alike! He is planning on spending his well-deserved retirement fishing, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Welcome to the Amesbury Animal Hospital!
Located in historic Amesbury, MA, the Amesbury Animal Hospital is a full-service mixed animal hospital. Since 1967, we have been committed to providing quality veterinary care for both large and small animals. We provide Northeastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire communities with routine medical, surgical and dental veterinary care as well as herd health and emergency services.
Amesbury Animal Hospital was established in 1967 by Dr. Robert A. Marston, who was joined by Dr. Thomas C. Candee soon after. Originally, the practice serviced over twenty local dairies and provided veterinary care for other livestock, horses and companion animals as well. Over the years, the number of dairy farms in the area has slowly diminished, but our practice continues to provide the highest quality veterinary care for both our large and small animal patients. Our current co-owners Dr. Kirk T. Smith and Dr. Jacqueline L. Bastien share large and small animal duties with our associates: Dr. Kelly A. Butterworth, and Dr. Holly Williams. We also have two other small animal-only doctors: Dr. Linda Hanneman and Dr. Stephanie Andruskevich. Dr. Marston retired from active practice in 2002, but he still stops by from time to time to visit. The past forty years has brought a lot of changes to our practice, but our compassion and dedication to our patients has remained constant. For our small animal patients, we offer comprehensive wellness exams, preventative medicine including vaccinations, parasite control and senior screening, surgical services, dentistry and emergency services. Our facility includes in-house laboratory, pharmacy, digital radiology, ultrasound and endoscopy capabilities.
For our large animal patients, we provide ambulatory routine healthcare including vaccinations and parasite control, herd health services, lameness examinations, pre-purchase exams, equine dentistry and emergency services. We have portable radiology and ultrasound equipment available as well as our in-house laboratory and pharmacy services. Our new building contains a haul-in area to allow for day procedures to be done on site or for short-term hospitalizations of our large animal patients.
Our doctors and staff are experienced and caring, and several of our staff members have been with us over twenty years. We currently employ four certified veterinary technicians (CVTs), 10-15 other employees as technicians, receptionists, laboratory staff and animal care assistants.
