Small Animal Services

We offer a wide range of medical and surgical services for our small animal clients. Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Regular wellness exams combined with appropriate preventive care can help alleviate many serious health problems in our pets:

Annual Wellness Examinations: As part of our routine care, we recommend yearly wellness exams that include appropriate vaccinations, internal and external parasite control, dietary counseling and blood work. These yearly exams allow us to monitor your pet for any potential health problems and help address them before they potentially become serious issues.

Dentistry: We offer dental services Monday through Thursday that include teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and minor oral surgeries. Our veterinarians can evaluate your pet's dental health during your annual wellness exams and recommend appropriate dental care as needed. During dental procedures, our digital dental radiography (x-ray) equipment allows us to identify diseased teeth and appropriately decide on the best treatment options for your pet. We also carry specific oral care diets as well as CET toothpaste and toothbrushes to help maintain your pet's oral health.

Because of the inherent risks of anesthesia, we recommend all of our surgical patients (especially older or at-risk patients) undergo pre-anesthetic examinations and blood work before surgery to ensure they can handle the anesthetics. All of our surgical patients are maintained under isoflurane gas anesthesia and the patient's vital signs are monitored throughout the procedure.

Diagnostic Imaging:  Our on-site X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. We also utilize an ultrasound machine to provide us further diagnostic information and have the ability to consult with Telemedicine specialists.

Laboratory:  Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.

Pharmacy:  We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.

Emergency Care: Please call our main telephone number for instructions for after-hour emergencies (978-388-3636). You will be instructed to listen to the entire message and either call or page the doctor on call. If the doctor on call is busy with another emergency, there are a number of emergency clinics in the area. Please see our entire list on our contacts page.

Grooming: Therapeutic bathing or grooming services that require sedation are available.

Permanent identification: We offer microchip identification.

Dietary Counseling:
We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.

OFA Testing: The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) is a non-profit orgainization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of companion animals through the reduction of genetic diseases such as hip and elbow dysplasia. We offer OFA radiographs as a way for responsible breeders to further the health of their breed through careful, selective breeding programs designed to eliminate certain genetic diseases.
